Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic
The Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic is an annual event to provide youth of East Contra County and surrounding communities the rare opportunity to interact with some of the best athletes and educators in the world. The youth serviced are from various cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. The Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic encourage youth to be viable citizens of society through the avenues of athletics and most importantly education. The mission of the education/ clinic is to promote all forms of education wither through a four years institution, community college or vocational/ trade schools.
The Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic featured 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist, two time World Record Holder and Master World Champion in 100m and 200m, as well as, Master World Holder, Eddie Hart. Some of the other illustrious cast of Olympians include 1968 200m Bronze Medalist, John Carlos, 1964 and 1968 100m Gold Medalist, Wyomia Tyus, 1992 400m Intermediate Hurdler and current World Record Holder, Kevin Young, 1988 Gold Medalist in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles, Andre Phillips, 1968 Olympic High Jumper, Reynaldo Brown, 1976 800m Olympian, James Robinson, and three time Olympic Heptathlon Marilyn King and many others attended. The Olympians teach the youth many of their techniques that the have learned over many years. In addition, to teaching the youth proper technique the Olympians shared their personal life stories which contained various trials and tribulations that fortunately did not detour them from their goals. Olympians sharing their personal difficulties in achieving their goals sin life provides an invaluable experience for the youth to learn that they can be successful no matter what their cultural or socio-economic background.
The Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic also provided an additional component regarding education, with seminars for the parents of the youth participating in the clinic. We want the parents to get something meaningful from clinic not just seating on the sidelines as their children are engaged in the activities on the field. The seminars are conducted by Los Meadanos Community College, University of California, Berkeley, and John F. Kennedy University. The information that the colleges provides the parents is pertinent information that is normally difficult information to obtain. The colleges addressed issues such as funding a college education, preparing for college, admission requirements. This educational seminar component gives the parents the resources necessary to help guide their children through their educational endeavors.
The Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Education/ Clinic is more than a events that promotes sports but instead is a community effort. The Eddie Hart All In One Foundation collaborated with many government, community, and business leaders in the city of Pittsburg. This event is one of kind, because it involves all of the necessary components for the youth of our community to be successful as viable citizens of society.
