Nathan Slaughter (Rest In Peace)
Psychology Instructor/ Former Athletic Director of Merritt College
Nathan (Nate) Slaughter came to California in 1967 from Passaic New Jersey and attended California State University Hayward (CSUH) graduating in 1971.  While competing in track and field at CSUH Mr. Slaughter distinguished himself setting a new long jump record.  Mr. Slaughter later returned to CSUH to receive his MA Degree in Psychology.

Mr. Slaughter is a Co-Founder of the Bay Area Striders (BAS), a Track and Field Club designed to provide World Class Athletes the opportunity to compete nationally and internationally.  The BAS has been one of the most successful track and field clubs in the country, boasting both Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holders.  Under the leadership of Mr. Slaughter the
BAS have competed in many countries the world over.

For more then ten years now Mr. Slaughter has been a consultant to USA Track and Field, our countries governing body, and he directed the first International Grand Prix Meet held in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Slaughter has over thirty years of experience as coach/administrator in track and field.  He has been involved with the successful Bruce Jenner Track Classic of San Jose CA. During the seventies he founded and hosted the Brotherhood Games a track and field meet designed primarily for local athletes to compete in a quality meet early in the season.

In 1999 when Mr. Slaughter was hired he made a promise, that he would rebuild the Merritt College stadium and track.  In 2004, Mr. Slaughter made good on that promise.  Merritt College now has a new stadium that seats seventeen hundred spectators and a state of the art Mondo track complete with a fully computerized scoreboard and electronic timing system.

In 2000 Mr. Slaughter served as a Liaison and coordinator for the US Olympic Committee (USOC) at the USA Olympic Trials.  He also served the USOC in 1996 during the Olympics held in Atlanta, GA.  Mr. Slaughter has conducted track camps and clinics to improve the performance of athletes and to raise the coaching level in the Bay Area.  As an educator Mr. Slaughter continues to use his influence to improve the human condition
